Garden Ramblings
Our second year far surpassed our expections. Thank you to everyone who supported us last year, we couldn't do it without you. We just celebrated Grandpa Les's 90th birthday in November. He's decided to join Grandma Arvella over at Park Avenue, the independent/assisted living facility in Lexington NE. He was very fortunate to sell the home to a lovely family that is letting him come putter in the yard when he wants so he can still get his gardening fix. If only we were closer, I'd be happy to share our weeds with him.
Again this year we have over 450 varieties of bearded iris for sale and over 50 beardless varieties to offer. We've been collecting more and more beardless each year so keep watching for an increase in available varieties.
This year we're starting a new program to encourage some recycling. We will pay $.10 for every plastic pot you bring in that we can use or give you $.20 off your order for each pot we can use. Just gather up all those plastic pots you have laying around from all the plants you bought and bring them over. We're looking for pots that are 6 inches in diameter or larger. Please don't bring pots to exchange at the Open Garden, that day is too busy, we'll be happy to arrange another time to exchange them.
You are always welcome to visit our garden during bloom season. Peak bloom for the Tall Bearded is between May 25th and June 10th, however, our SDBs are going strong by the second week of May and our Japanese don’t finish until the last couple weeks of June so you’ll find something blooming anytime in between.
